गांव की आखिरी सड़क से बहुत दूर एक रहस्यमयी जंगल था — फुसफुसाता जंगल।
यह जंगल कभी शांत नहीं रहता था। हवा सिर्फ चलती नहीं थी — बातें करती थी। पेड़ पुराने किस्से सुनाते थे। बेलें गानों की तरह हिलती थीं। जमीन के नीचे जड़ें एक पेड़ से दूसरे पेड़ तक रहस्य पहुँचाती थीं।
इस जंगल में हाथियों का एक विशाल झुंड रहता था, जिसकी नेता थी समझदार हथिनी मालिनी।
एक चाँदनी रात को एक सफेद हाथी का जन्म हुआ — ऐरावत।
सफेद हाथी भाग्य और शक्ति का प्रतीक माना जाता है।
लेकिन वह खतरे को भी साथ लाता है।
